KIDS EDUCATION PROGRAM
Together we protect our beaches and oceans: the Smurfriders are happy to visit your school for an interactive lesson! First in the classroom, then outside together. The kids learn why a clean schoolyard, playground, park, or beach is important and then take action. We clean up litter and hand out prizes for the craziest finds. In 75 minutes, the kids become part of the solution, learn about good citizenship, and get excited about our oceans and beaches—even if they’re not within cycling distance!

We are Surfrider Netherlands. We are made up of volunteers who all share a love for our oceans and/or water sports. We are a young organization and part of the solution. We believe that together we can ensure clean beaches and oceans. We call that good citizenship! And you can’t start early enough. That’s why we love to visit as Smurfriders for an interactive lesson and clean-up at your school.
We focus on the solution, so that children also know they can contribute to clean beaches and our North Sea!
The first part of the program takes place in the classroom. The second part, we go outside with the class. In the classroom, we give an interactive lesson and take the children through the causes of pollution and the importance of clean beaches/oceans. This classroom part is important to spark involvement and enthusiasm among the children. Outside the classroom, we really get to work so that being ‘part of the solution’ is immediately put into practice. We clean up litter in the schoolyard, at a playground, or in the nearest park, forest, or beach. We add a game element with a small competition and prizes. The indoor program lasts about half an hour. The outdoor program lasts about 45 minutes.
