The strength of Surfrider Foundation worldwide lies in the dedication of a very large group of volunteers. This group is of unprecedented value and is committed to a better future for our seas and oceans. Surfrider is one big worldwide family. Together we ensure the implementation of campaigns and the setting up of projects for a better future. In the Netherlands we have a growing volunteer pool. Our board members work on 100% volunteer basis as well. In Europe, 29 local chapters are active in nine different countries, one of which is the Netherlands. Do you want to become part of our family? Cigarette Butts Campaign Manager

Are you passionate about protecting our North Sea, the beaches and surf spots? Do you thrive on creating impactful content and inspire people for a common cause? If so, we’d love to have you join our team!

About the social media team member role:

In this role, you’ll have a unique opportunity to collaborate with passionate, like-minded individuals dedicated to a meaningful cause.

As part of the media team at Surfrider Netherlands, you will play a vital role in creating impactful content across our social media platforms, website, and newsletter. With the media team, you will decide on our media strategies together to help grow Surfrider’s reach, engage our community, and inspire action for the protection of our oceans.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop engaging posts, stories, and reels that resonate with our audience and reflect Surfrider's mission and values.

  • Create and update web pages to ensure content is timely, accurate, and in line with Surfrider's goals.

  • Draft and design monthly newsletters with engaging updates on Surfrider's campaigns, events, and ways to get involved.

  • Participate in regular team meetings to brainstorm new content ideas and contribute to media strategy discussions.

  • Work with the media team to develop a cohesive strategy that aligns with Surfrider’s goal

  • Track and analyze the impact of media efforts and share insights to continuously improve our approach.

  • Support outreach efforts to grow our audience and connect with environmental advocates, influencers, and partner organizations.

Your profile and skills:

  • Some previous experience with communications and social media

  • Familiar with basic graphic design and/or skilled in photography

  • Good organization skills

  • You are proactive and know how to work with tools like MailChimp and social media. And you think writing is one of the most fun things to do.

  • You preferably have an (almost) perfect understanding of both Dutch and English.

  • You have four hours a week available to do your tasks on a voluntary basis.

  • You love being in the ocean or on the beach and you want to protect what you love. Enjoying watersports is of course a big plus.

 

About Surfrider Foundation Netherlands:

We are part of Surfrider Foundation Europe, a collective of positive people dedicated to protecting the ocean through education, citizen mobilization, and influencing industries and legislation. In the Netherlands, we focus on three main campaigns:

  • Ocean Initiatives: Organizing beach clean-ups

  • Ocean Friendly Restaurants: Collaborating with restaurants to promote ocean-friendly practices

  • Water Quality Monitoring: Monitoring water quality at popular surf spots across the country

 

What we offer:

Details for this position:

  • Location: Hybrid (flexible, within the Netherlands)

  • Time commitment: Approximately 2-4 hours per week

  • Goal-setting: We’ll set objectives together at the start and work with KPIs for the whole team.
